After a rocky start to the NHL season, the Edmonton Oilers have won three straight games, including a 5-4 shootout win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night. The Oilers are now 8-12-1 with 17 points, seventh in the Western Conference’s Pacific Division and five points behind the Nashville Predators for the second Wild Card spot in the West.

Oilers’ captain Connor McDavid continued his hot streak, scoring a goal and two assists for a three-point effort, including a goal in the shootout. That’s three straight games that McDavid has recorded at least three points in a contest, and in his last five games, McDavid has compiled four goals, 11 assists and 15 points.

McDavid will look to continue his scoring ways against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday. In 30 career games against the Jets, McDavid has 12 goals and 41 assists for 53 points.

On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss McDavid and the Oilers’ resurgence and if the three-time Hart Trophy winner has done enough to insert himself into the MVP conversation.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Last night, Connor McDavid racked up another three points, scored in the shootout, and in the last 10 days, he’s gone from outside the top-100 in scoring to inside the top-10: is Connor McDavid back in the Hart Trophy race?

Frank Seravalli: Not yet, but he could be entering the conversation. I’m more confident in saying the Oilers are back. Their power play is humming and they just seem to have some confidence again. I think we need to see it for a seven-game spurt, not just a three-game spurt, to really say the Oilers are back.

For McDavid, I still think there’s some players that are head and shoulders above where he’s at right now, but if you keep having 15-point weeks, it’s not going to be very long before he’s right there.
