A couple of notable NHL general managers will be helping out their country’s squads over the next couple of years.
On Tuesday, Hockey Canada announced that Tampa Bay Lightning GM Julien BriseBois has been added as an assistant general manager for Team Canada at next year’s 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
Hockey Canada also revealed that Kyle Dubas, GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins, will serve as director of player personnel for the two national teams.
Hockey Canada announces #GoBolts GM Julien BriseBois will make his international management debut as assistant GM for 4Nations Face-Off in 2025.
Kyle Dubas will join him as director of player personnel.
They will hold the same titles for Canada’s men’s Olympic team in 2026.
BriseBois and Dubas will be serving under Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney for the 4 Nations Face-Off, and St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong at the Olympics.
“Julien and Kyle are accomplished NHL general managers,” Armstrong said in a release. “I am excited to welcome them to our management group for both the 4 Nations Face-Off and Olympics, as I believe they will be strong assets to a well-rounded management team.”
Armstrong believes their experience in the league will be crucial in helping Canada put together a stellar team on the international stage.
“Both Julien and Kyle have enjoyed long and successful careers, and we believe their experience and knowledge of NHL players will be a great addition to our staff as we continue to evaluate Canadian players and build rosters for international competition.”
Sweeney, along with assistant GM Jim Nill, are excited to work with the duo as they prepare for the exciting new tournament next February.
“Jim and I are thrilled to have Julien and Kyle join our management group for the 4 Nations Face-Off,” Sweeney explained. “And to work alongside them as we prepare for the Olympics. Both are successful NHL general managers that bring a wealth of knowledge, many years of experience at the professional level and great leadership skills that will be beneficial to our coaches, support staff and players.”
BriseBois has held the top job in Tampa since 2018, and helped put together a Lightning team that won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021. Before being promoted, he worked under Steve Yzerman in Tampa for eight seasons as an assistant GM. Previously, BriseBois cut his teeth working in the minor leagues, as well as serving as director of hockey operations with the Montreal Canadiens from 2003 to 2006.
Dubas will be entering his second second as president of hockey operations and GM of the Penguins, and seventh season overall as a general manager in the NHL. Before moving to the Steel City, Dubas worked for the Toronto Maple Leafs for nine years, five of which as the GM.
Canada will be pitted against the United States, Sweden and Finland at the 4 Nations Face-Off, which will be taking place in Montreal and Boston in February 2025. The full Canadian roster for the showcase will be announced the week of Nov. 29-Dec. 2.
