Hockey Canada hires Trevor Murphy as vice president of hockey development
A Maritimer is joining hockey’s biggest governing body in Canada.
On Wednesday, Hockey Canada announced it has hired Trevor Murphy as the new vice president of hockey development. Murphy’s role will be leading the directive strategy of developing hockey at the grassroots level across the country.
Trevor Murphy will join Hockey Canada on July 15 as vice-president of hockey development.

Murphy will begin working with the organization once again on July 15. From 2003 to 2008, he worked with Atlantic Canada as the manager of Hockey Canada’s Regional Centre in Saint John, New Brunswick.
The Mount Pearl, Newfoundland native is coming to Hockey Canada after serving on the senior leadership team with the 2025 Canada Games. From 2008 to 2011, Murphy worked with the Edmonton Oilers, helping with community and consumer partnerships. He also held executive roles with the former St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League and the now-defunct Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL.
Throughout his career, Trevor has made significant contributions to hockey as an executive, administrator, official, and volunteer coach,” Pat McLaughlin, chief operating officer and executive vice-president of strategy, said in a release. “His hiring is another important step to continue advancing our Player Pathways, the Canadian Development Model and further establish Canada as an international leader in hockey development.”
Murphy graduated from Memorial University in Newfoundland and has received multiple awards during his time in hockey. He won the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for commitment and dedication to the game of hockey, among other accolades.
“It’s a privilege to be returning to Hockey Canada as the vice president of hockey development,” Murphy said. “I am excited to work with the tremendous Members, volunteers and staff throughout the country to build upon the foundation that has been created for development programs as we look to take them to new heights and impact all hockey participants in a very positive manner.”
