While they have played more games than any team in the NHL, the New Jersey Devils are up near the top of the league standings thanks to a strong and balanced scoring attack.

One of the contributors through the first month of the season has been captain Nico Hischier. The former first-overall pick has had a great start to the 2024-25 campaign, posting points in five of the first eight games of the season and already has four multi-point games thus far.

While he hasn’t placed his name on the scoresheet in the Devils’ last three games, the longest “drought” of the year, Hischier has certainly made an impact in the early going. He sits third on the team in scoring with 16 points, only trailing Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes, while also leading New Jersey with 10 goals.

On Monday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, New Jersey Hockey Now’s James Nichols joined Tyler Yaremchuk and Colby Cohen to discuss Hischier’s impressive scoring burst.

James Nichols: Overall, I think he’s had to take a little less responsibility as a whole, just because of his linemates. He’s now playing regularly with Dawson Mercer, who does help him defensively. Timo Meier is no slouch in that department either…It’s a really strong line, both ways, and it’s helping that a lot. [Hischier] does have a really good shot, he can be a goal scorer and that 30-goal season he had was no fluke. So, it would not be a surprise to see him do it again. However, he was on a 63-goal pace a week ago, so I don’t think that’s going to end up the way it is, but it shouldn’t be a surprise to see him score another 30-35 goals this year.
