How Matvei Michkov’s potential arrival in 2024-25 could change the Flyers’ outlook
Russian phenom Matvei Michkov’s potential arrival to the Philadelphia Flyers could change the outlook for the club in 2024-25.
Today on Daily Faceoff Live, NBC’s Jordan Hall stops by the show to talk about the Flyers and Matvei Michkov.
Tyler Yaremchuk: There were some rumblings maybe three or four weeks ago now, and nobody really knows what is going to happen, if Matvei Michkov were to come over to Philadelphia, let’s say they get the news in three weeks that Michkov is coming, does that change the timeline at all for this organization? Or do you think no matter what the situation with Michkov is a long-term approach?
Jordan Hall: I still think it is a long-term approach. I do think he would change their dynamic in so many ways and one being they could fill so many seats with him in the lineup. There are so many things around this guy that can excite the fanbase even more. I think if anything it changes their approach to how they supplement and help Michkov, they don’t have a first-line center really, Sean Couturier is considered that guy of course but he is older, he is coming off a serious back injury and he’s coming off a bad stretch where he was even sat for two games.
Jordan Hall: So I think it’s how they can find a center, who can they develop to play with Michkov. As talented as Michkov is, and the hope is he can be their star player but they need to surround him with talent and get more talent. He won’t solve everything and the worst thing that can happen is he comes over and somehow regresses because they haven’t surrounded him well enough. I think that’s where the focus is.
