Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho misses Tuesday’s game with upper-body injury
Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho is slated to miss Tuesday’s game against the San Jose Sharks while dealing with an upper-body injury, the club announced on its official public relations Twitter account.
The Hurricanes and the Sharks are slated to take the ice at the SAP Center in San Jose at 10:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Carolina currently boasts a 2–1–0 record through three games in the 2023–24 regular season.
Aho, 26, has a goal and two assists through his first three games of the 2023–24 season with the Hurricanes. He’s entering the final season of the five-year offer sheet he signed with the Montreal Canadiens back in 2019; his new eight-year extension with the Hurricanes is set to kick in next year.
The Hurricanes did not share any specifics about Aho’s injury beyond that it pertains to his upper body.
The Hurricanes originally selected Aho in the second round (No. 35 overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. The Finnish center made his NHL debut with Carolina in the 2016–17 season and quickly emerged as one of the club’s top players.
Aho led the Hurricanes with 65 points in 2017–18 and took another step forward to 83 in 2018–19, helping the club qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in a decade. The Hurricanes have returned to the playoffs every year since.
Once his current contract, which carries an $8.460 million cap hit, expires next July, Aho will make an average of $9.75 million per season from 2024 to 2032. His new contract will also include a full no-movement clause.
Through 523 career games over parts of eight regular seasons with the Hurricanes, Aho has collected 219 goals, 471 points, and 218 penalty minutes. He’s added 23 goals and 58 points in 63 career playoff contests.
