On Saturday, Carolina Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky announced the team has placed forward Seth Jarvis on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.

The injury is retroactive to Nov. 10.

Per IR rules, Jarvis would be eligible to return to the lineup when the Hurricanes host the St. Louis Blues tomorrow, but it was announced on Friday that he is considered week-to-week. Jarvis’ placement on IR does open a roster spot, allowing goaltender Yaniv Perets to join the lineup.

It has not been officially revealed what Jarvis injured. Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News reported earlier this week that Jarvis was seen wearing a sling last week. He was a late scratch prior to Carolina’s matchup on Monday against the Vegas Golden Knights and hasn’t been close to returning to the lineup since.

The Canes went on to win that game, 5-2, before losing to the Utah Hockey Club, 4-1, on Wednesday.

Jarvis has been a key contributor to the team’s early success. Through 13 games, he has notched four goals and seven assists for 11 points, including a couple of assists in his last game, a 6-4 loss to the Colorado Avalanche last Saturday. Jarvis is still fourth on the Hurricanes in scoring.

He came into the new season after signing a big eight-year contract, with an AAV of $7.9 million that carries through the 2031-32 campaign. The Winnipeg native certainly earned the big payday after becoming one of the team’s top contributors in his first three seasons in the league, including notching career highs in goals (33), assists (34) and points (67) last season.

In 244 NHL appearances, Jarvis has scored 68 goals and 89 assists for 157 points, with another 27 points coming in 40 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The Hurricanes (11-4-0) are scheduled to face the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. Carolina is third in the Metropolitan Division in points (22) despite having the best winning percentage in the division (.733).
