The Carolina Hurricanes announced Saturday the signing of forward Skyler Brind’Amour to a one-year, two-way contract through the 2024-25 season. Brind’Amour will earn $775,000 at the NHL level and $75,000 in the American Hockey League (AHL).

The 25-year-old Brind’Amour made his professional debut with the Charlotte Checkers, the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate, in 2023-24, scoring three goals and five assists for eight points in 54 regular-season games.

“We were impressed with Skyler’s defensive awareness last season in the AHL, and he followed that up with a strong preseason showing,” Hurricanes’ General Manager Eric Tulsky said in a team statement. “We’re excited to have him join our organization.”

Before turning pro, Brind’Amour played four NCAA college hockey seasons with Quinnipiac University, scoring 23 goals and 53 assists for 76 points in 145 career games. During his senior season in 2022-23, he scored 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points in 41 games, helping Quinnipiac win the NCAA Championship. He was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s Best Defensive Forward.

After spending the 2016-17 season with the U.S. National Development Team in the United States Hockey League, he was taken in the sixth round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. Brind’Amour would spend the next two years in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with the Chilliwack Chiefs, scoring 23 goals and 45 assists for 68 points in 104 regular-season games.

Born and raised in Raleigh, N.C., Skyler is the son of former NHL forward and current Hurricanes’ Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour. As a player, he captained the team to their one and only Stanley Cup championship in 2006. Over 20 NHL seasons, he scored 452 goals and 732 assists for 1,184 points in 1,484 regular-season games with the Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers and St. Louis Blues.
