The New York Islanders announced today that veteran forward Cal Clutterbuck has won the 2023-24 Bob Nysrom Award.

The award is for leadership, hustle and dedication, as voted on by Islanders fans.

The 36-year-old became the first player in NHL history to record 4,000 career hits a stat that has been tracked since 2005-06, he also reached a personal milestone of skating in his 1,000th NHL game during the 2023-24 regular season.

Clutterbuck scored seven goals and added 12 assists for 19 points in 82 games. This was the first time in his 17-year career that he had skated in all 82 games. Clutterbuck led the team with 273 hits. Clutterbuck was also this year’s Islanders nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy for his perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey.

Past winners of the award for the Islanders include Zach Parise, JG Pageau, Matt Martin, Casey Cizikas, Anders Lee, Frans Nielsen, Kyle Okposo, Tim Jackman, Richard Park, Trent Hunter, Kevin Colley, Adrian Aucoin and many more.

Throughout his 1,064-game career, Clutterbuck has racked up 143 goals and 150 assists for 293 points over parts of 17 seasons with the Islanders and Minnesota Wild.
