Friday afternoon in the NHL saw a trio of moves on the waiver wire.

Beginning in Long Island, the New York Islanders placed 28-year-old left winger Pierre Engvall on waivers. Through 20 appearances with the Islanders this season, the Swedish-born forward has collected three goals and three assists for six points. Engvall has spent part of three seasons with the Islanders, including the 2023-24 campaign that saw him secure 28 points counting 10 goals and 18 assists in 74 games.

Friday’s transaction is the second time this season that Engvall has been waived. The veteran forward cleared waivers in October and was assigned to the AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders, where he made six appearances. Per PuckPedia, Engvall is under contract through 2029-30 and carries a $3-million annual average value.

The Islanders also made a second move Friday, waiving former first-round pick Oliver Wahlstrom. The 24-year-old Portland, Me., product has seen 27 contests with New York this season in which he has tallied twice and added two assists. The 11th overall selection from the 2018 NHL Draft, Wahlstrom’s time with the Islanders has totaled 220 appearances in which he has registered 71 points counting 36 goals and 35 assists. Per PuckPedia, Wahlstrom carries a $1-million annual average value and is a pending restricted free agent.

Lastly, Friday also saw the Minnesota Wild claim defenseman Travis Dermott off waivers from the Edmonton Oilers. The 27-year-old native of Newmarket, Ont., has made 10 appearances with the Oilers this season, registrering two penalty minutes and a minus-three rating. Dermott has been a healthy scratch for Edmonton’s past eight games. In all, the veteran rearguard has made 339 NHL appearances, counting stops with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, the former Arizona Coyotes, and Oilers.

In early October, Dermott signed a one-year, two-way agreement with the Oilers as an unrestricted free agent. Per PuckPedia, Dermott carries a $775,000 annual average value.
