Things are starting to get ugly in the Windy City.

Following a lackluster 6-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues in the 2025 NHL Winter Classic, the Chicago Blackhawks have lost five straight games. It has erased optimism around the team following a solid stretch of performances after Anders Sorenson was named the interim head coach after Luke Richardson was fired earlier this month.

It’s not just the fact the team is losing but how the Hawks are being defeated. Over this slide, Chicago has been outscored 31-12, allowing six goals three times.

Forward Jason Dickinson spoke to the media on Thursday, showing his frustration and concerns about how the team has played over the last two weeks.

“You felt like things were changing,” Dickinson said. “All of a sudden, it feels worse than it ever has. It’s probably because there was hope, there was a reason to be excited about what we were doing, and all of a sudden, it’s now been three embarrassing losses.”

The sour results have been mentally taxing on players like Dickinson.

“A lot of thoughts run through your head. You wonder what’s going on, what can I do more of, how can I help move this along?… I don’t know what the answer is exactly.”

Before the losing streak, Chicago had won three games in a row and threatened to escape the cellar of the Central Division and the bottom of the league standings.

Sure, nobody expected much from the Blackhawks this year, despite Connor Bedard coming off his Calder Trophy-winning season. Yet, for a team with a lot of attention on it, the fans hope the franchise is building to become a playoff contender sooner rather than later. However, another multi-game losing streak is ensuring the thoughts of those who doubt the team.

The Blackhawks (12-24-2) hold the worst record in the NHL, 17 points out of a Wild Card spot.
