The Toronto Maple Leafs’ goaltending situation just got even more complicated.

The team announced on Thursday that Jack Campbell will miss at least two weeks of play due to a rib injury. In a subsequent move, Erik Källgren has been recalled from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Campbell had an excellent start to the season but has struggled as of late. Over his past five outings, the 30-year-old has allowed 23 goals on 146 shots, good for an .842 save percentage. All told, Campbell has a .914 save percentage over 40 appearances in 2021-22.

The Leafs will now need to lean more heavily on Petr Mrazek, who hasn’t yet found his groove in an injury-riddled first season in Toronto. Mrazek has made 15 appearances for Toronto and has an .890 save percentage.

Källgren was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the seventh round of the 2015 draft and signed with the Leafs back in May of 2021 as a free agent. Källgren has no NHL experience and has a .904 save percentage in 26 games this season for the Marlies in the AHL.

The Leafs are set to host the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night, a team that has scored 17 goals in its last two games.
