Jack Roslovic was a low-risk, high-reward signing by the Hurricanes – and he’s thriving
The Carolina Hurricanes needed to add some secondary scoring to their roster this past offseason, and chose to sign forward Jack Roslovic to a one-year, $2.8-million contract. The one-year deal gave both sides a chance to feel out the fit, and needless to say, almost half way through the season, Roslovic has fit in perfectly in Carolina.
The 27-year-old Columbus, OH native entered Monday’s action with 14 goals in 33 games, tied for the Hurricanes’ lead with Martin Necas. Roslovic’s production includes a team-leading 13 even-strength goals. He’s averaging 13:40 of ice-time per game, and is certainly making the most of his opportunity this season.
For the most part Roslovic has played the wing for Carolina, but also has filled in some spot duty down the middle of the ice. His versatility and more importantly, his ability to put the puck in the back of the net is making him a prime candidate to get his contract extended at some point this year.
On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli discussed Roslovic’s impact on the Hurricanes this season.
Yaremchuk: Let’s wrap up here with our weekend warrior. A look back at the last few days of NHL action, who did you pick up?
Seravalli: So I got Jack Roslovic. And, I know it wasn’t a crazy big weekend for him, but, when you look at Jack Roslovic being top-25 in goals this season, I mean, how many people really saw that coming? One-year deal, the Carolina Hurricanes took a flyer on him, and I just wanted to give him some love because I’m not sure anyone is paying attention to how good of a season he’s had.
14 goals already, and you know, this is a guy that was a trade deadline throw in last year to the New York Rangers for kind of nothing. Had a pretty good playoff run, 0.5 point-per-game, eight points in 16 playoff games on that run to the Eastern Conference Final for the Rangers, that didn’t got into the summer as – hey, this guys going to do well in free agency.
Again, not big risk, the Hurricanes don’t give much term, and he rewards them in a really big way so far this season, as a perfect fit. Just when you kind of thought, after a really hot start to the year for Roslovic that he’d be slowing down a little bit, you get another game like this past weekend when he scores again.
