There have been a number of players who have been fun to watch so far in the 2024-25 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

On Daily Faceoff Live, Frank Seravalli explains why Jake Guentzel was a playoff standout for the Tampa Bay Lightning during their first-round matchup against reigning Stanley Cup champions the Florida Panthers.

Tampa was ultimately eliminated in five games, marking another first-round playoff exit by the Bolts since winning back-to-back Stanley Cups and making a third straight final.

Guentzel tallied three goals and three assists for six points in five Stanley Cup playoff contests, which included a goal in their elimination game against the Panthers. Guentzel racked up 41 goals and 80 points in 80 games during the regular season.

The 30-year-old spent the 2023-24 season with the Carolina Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins, scoring 30 goals and 47 assists for 77 points. He was acquired by Carolina in a trade just before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, with the Penguins receiving Michael Bunting and a slew of draft picks and prospects. Carolina then dealt Guentzel to Tampa for a third-round draft pick. Tampa signed Guentzel to a seven-year, $9 million AAV contract.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Our ASK DFO question today, who’s been the most impressive player for you in round one of these playouts and I’ll take the easy one off the board and say, who the hell saw Cam Fowler putting up nine points and five games for the St. Louis Blues?

Frank Seravalli: Yeah, but I’m gonna say I love watching Jake Guentzel, and when it comes to the playoffs, and I know they lost, but man, is he a clutch, clutch scorer, and he’s just someone that works constantly digs. I thought he had a great series and a guy that we definitely don’t talk about.
