Jeff Malott signs two-year deal with Los Angeles Kings
The Los Angeles Kings have signed left winger Jeff Malott to a two-year deal worth $775,000 per season, according to PuckPedia.
The 6-foot-4 winger is known for being a power forward in the AHL. This past season, he had 22 goals and 52 points and 66 penalty minutes, improving on his previous best of 44 points last year. He has consistently improved his numbers every season, which started off strong with 14 goals and 20 points in 34 games in 2020-21.
An undrafted free agent, Malott was a proven winner before turning pro. He helped Caledonia win the 2014 GOJHL championship before winning an AJHL title with the Brooks Bandits two years later. In 2018 and 2020, Malott won ECAC regular season titles with Cornell, the school that saw him put up 24 goals and 53 points in 114 games.
But something about turning pro has allowed the Burlington, Ontario native to flourish, and he has established himself as quite the difficult AHLer to play against. He did make his NHL debut in 2021-22, but looks to be headed to the AHL’s Ontario Reign in 2024-25.
The Kings have just over $12 million in projected cap space, with new deals needed for restricted free agents Quinton Byfield, Arthur Kaliyev and Jordan Spence.
