Jets’ Logan Stanley to miss road trip with mid-body injury
Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel announced on Tuesday that defenseman Logan Stanley won’t be available at any point throughout the Jets’ current three-game road trip. Arniel confirmed Stanley is ruled out due to a mid-body injury.
Winnipeg is in New York on Tuesday to take on the Rangers, then will fly south to sunny Florida for matchups against the Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday, and the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
Stanley, 26, missed the first four games of the Jets season recovering from knee surgery, and unfortunately once again finds himself unavailable to play. The towering 6-foot-7 blueliner has played very well to start his season, averaging 15:13 of ice-time per game, including over a minute on the penalty kill. Stanley has scored once and added two assists through his first 11 games, while landing 12 hits and blocking 17 shots.
The Jets and Stanley agreed to a to a two-year, $1.25-million AAV contract back in July and the stay-at-home defenseman was someone GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was keeping an eye on this season as a player he’d like to take a step forward in his development. While injuries seem to be an issue early on this year, when he is available, Stanley has been solid for the Jets, bringing an aggressive in-your-face style to Winnipeg’s blueline.
Arniel confirmed after the Jets’ practice Tuesday, Stanley will be re-evaluated once the team returns from their road trip this weekend, as at this point, there doesn’t appear to be any clear indication of recovery timelines. Look for Haydn Fleury to potentially draw back into the Jets’ lineup while Stanley is unavailable. Fleury hasn’t played since Oct.18 against the San Jose Sharks.
Winnipeg is off to a blazing hot start to the year, posting a 14-1-0 record to kick off their 2024-25 season. It’s been a historic run out of the gates for the Jets, as they’ll look to continue flying high on their road trip without Stanley on the back end.
