In waiver news for the weekend, the Winnipeg Jets have placed defenseman Declan Chisholm on waivers while the Montreal Canadiens have placed Nicolas Beaudin on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a contract buyout.

The 24-year-old has appeared in two games with Winnipeg this season registering one assist. Chisholm has primarily spent the 2023-24 campaign in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Jets affiliate the Manitoba Moose. He has tallied five assists in six games this season. In the fall, Chisholm signed a one-year, two-way deal worth $775,000 in the NHL for 2023-24.

The Bowmanville, Ontario product was drafted in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. Chisholm had a breakout season with five goals and 43 points in 59 regular season games with the Moose. He also had four assists in five games during the playoffs. In 146 games, Chisholm has 16 goals and 91 points over three years.

Before turning pro, Chisholm spent four years with the OHL’s Peterborough Petes. He finished with a career-high 13 goals and 69 points in 2019-20, his only season as an alternate captain.

Meanwhile, according to a report from Elliotte Friedman, the decision to waive Beaudin is muutal as Beaudin is unhappy with his minutes with the Laval Rocket in the AHL. The 24-year-old has six assists in 16 games this season. He was originally drafted 27th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2018 and was dealt to the Canadiens early in 2022-23. Beaudin’s contract is a one-year, two-way pact worth $775,000 in the NHL and $90,000 in the AHL.

Beaudin has 73 points in 192 AHL games over four seasons. He also represented Canada at the 2022 Spengler Cup and the 2021 World Hockey Championship, where he won gold with a victory over Finland.
