The Seattle Kraken have signed goaltender Joey Daccord to a two-year deal with an AAV of $1.2 million.

Daccord is fresh off of helping the Coachella Valley Firebirds to Game 7 of the Calder Cup playoffs. He was outstanding for the Firebirds, snagging three shutouts and a .926 save percentage in 26 playoff games. He had a 26-8-3 record with three shutouts and a .918 save percentage during the regular season, which also included a 2-1-1 run with the Kraken.

Daccord is one of the original members of the Kraken, with the club taking him with the sixth pick from Ottawa at the 2021 expansion draft. At the time, he had just nine games to his credit in the NHL, and played just 10 games total in 2020-21. Daccord had an 0-4-0 run to start his time in Seattle last year but had a solid run with the Charlotte Checkers.

With Martin Jones set to become a UFA, Daccord will likely slot into the backup spot behind Philipp Grubauer next year. The Kraken have $20.293 million in projected cap space for 2023-24. The club elected to not give qualifying offers to Morgan Geekie and Daniel Sprong, with Carson Soucy and Jones set to become UFAs. Vince Dunn, Cale Fleury and William Borgen are all pending RFAs, with Dunn expected to get a solid payday after becoming Seattle’s top defender.

The Seattle Kraken qualified for the second round of the playoffs for the first time in franchise history after beating the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Colorado Avalanche. Seattle lost to Dallas in the second round, but it still marked a successful sophomore campaign for a team most expected to miss the playoffs.
