It looks like John Klingberg’s time in Dallas is over.

According to Frank Seravalli, Klingberg is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 13 and he’ll be hitting the open market…

Klingberg was selected by the Stars in the fifth round of the 2010 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2014-15 and scored 40 points over the course of 65 games. Immediately after that season, Klingberg inked a seven-year contract worth $29,750,000.

Over the course of eight seasons with the Stars, Klingberg appeared in 552 games and scored 71 goals and 374 points. He also scored 35 points over 59 playoff games for the Stars, including 21 points in 26 games during Dallas’ run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020.

Klingberg, who turns 30 years old in August, will be one of the top options on the open market for teams looking for a puck-moving defenseman. He was ranked No. 4 on Daily Faceoff’s Top 50 Free Agents list and was the top option among defensemen.
