There was a little dust-up during a charity hockey game in Hollywood.

On Sunday, during the Skate for LA Strong hockey game at Crypto.com Arena, Hockey Hall of Famer Jeremy Roenick dropped the mitts with pop star Justin Bieber.

The fisticuffs occurred during the second period, in which Bieber, playing on a team coached by actor Will Ferrell and legendary rap artist Snoop Dogg, squared off with Roenick, playing for actors Vince Vaughn and Cobie Smulders’ team.

Bieber was able to get the upper hand on the former Chicago Blackhawk, pulling the sweater over Roenick’s head. Roenick’s teammate and former NHL tough guy Derek Armstrong jumped in to break up the fight, leading to former NHLer Nate Thompson coming in to grab Armstrong.

The fight certainly got some excitement out of the crowd, who was there to see former pro hockey stars mix it up with celebrities and first responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department and Police Department. Actors Steve Carrell and Taylor Kitsch played alongside Baseball Hall of Famer Joe Mauer and former NFL quarterback Matt Leinart. Those were among the names of players who skated against Hockey Hall of Famers Mark Messier, Natalie Darwitz, and Rob Blake.

The event was put together by the NHL and the Los Angeles Kings to support the relief fire recovery efforts around the greater Los Angeles area that have occurred over the past couple of months.

“Sports are like the common denominator that always brings people together,” Leinart said in an interview with NHL.com’s Dan Greenspan. “You know, they bring communities together, whether it’s hockey, football, basketball. I probably speak for a lot of people, we knew a lot of people impacted by the fires, friends, family. And so just for the Kings to put this day on with the first responders and just show their support and try to raise money for a great cause … is awesome to be a part of.”

Starting last month, the Kings, Anaheim Ducks and 10 other professional sports teams pledged more than $8 million in donations for the efforts.
