Kings’ Adrian Kempe fined for slew-footing Connor McDavid
The National Hockey League (NHL) Department of Player Safety announced that Los Angeles Kings forward Adrian Kempe has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for slew-footing Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid during Monday night’s contest.
The incident occurred at 8:30 of the third period, there was no penalty or stoppage on the play. Edmonton went on to win the game 1-0.
The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund. This is Kempe’s first fine in his career.

— NHL Player Safety (@NHLPlayerSafety) January 14, 2025The 28-year-old has tallied 20 goals and 19 assists for 39 points in 41 games this season. Kempe’s 20 goals rank first among Kings’ skaters while his 39 points place him second behind Kings captain Anze Kopitar.
Kempe was recently named to Team Sweden’s 4-Nations roster where he will represent his country internationally during the tournament in February.
Kempe tallied a career-high 75 points in 77 games last season and added four goals and five points in five Stanley Cup Playoff contests.
The Kings selected Kempe with the No. 29 overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2016-17 with two goals and six points in 25 games and developed into a quality depth scorer after that.
Through nine NHL seasons in Los Angeles, the Swedish native has racked up 179 goals and 188 assists for 367 points in 590 games.
Los Angeles currently sits third in the Pacific Division with a 24-12-5 record and 53 points through 41 games this season. The Kings are slated to face the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, the Seattle Kraken on Saturday and Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday in action this week.
