Kings’ Tanner Jeannot given match penalty for hit to the head on Canucks’ Brock Boeser

Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot was assessed a match penalty for a dangerous hit to the head on Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser.

Boeser was able to get up on his own and was escorted off the ice by Canucks medical personnel. The Canucks later announced that Boeser would not return to the game. An update on Boeser will likely be provided in the coming days regarding his status.

Boeser has tallied six goals and five assists for 11 points in 11 games this season. The 27-year-old is coming off a career-high season that saw him score 40 goals and 73 points in 81 games during the 2023-24 campaign.

Jeannot had two points and 21 penalty minutes headed into Thursday’s matchup against Vancouver.

The Kings acquired Jeannot from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a 2025 2nd-round draft pick and a 2024 4th-round pick. Tampa oringally traded five draft picks to acquire Jeannot from the Nashville Predators at the 2023 trade deadline.

Throughout his career the Estevan, Saskatchewan product has racked up 43 goals, 82 points and 335 penalty minutes in 241 games over parts of five seasons with the Kings, Predators and Lightning. Jeannot has added three points in 16 career playoff contests.

Jeannot spent time in the AHL and ECHL in the 2020–21 season before making his NHL debut with the Predators that same year. During the 2021-22 campaign, Jeannot led all rookies with 24 goals and had over 100 penalty minutes as one of the most penalized fighters.

NHL Department of Player Safety will likely intervene and hand down a suspension in the coming days.
