A solid two-way prospect has signed his first NHL contract.

On Friday, the Seattle Kraken agreed to terms with forward Oscar Fisker Mølgaard on a three-year, entry-level contract.

Mølgaard was selected by the Kraken in the second round, 52nd overall, of the 2023 NHL Draft.

The 19-year-old is quietly developing into a solid center who can play at both ends of the rink. Mølgaard has great awareness in his own zone and the speed to keep up with the opposition’s top players.

The Danish prospect has spent the last three years of his career in Sweden in the HV71 system. After playing for the Under-18 and Under-20 teams, Mølgaard made his Swedish Hockey League debut in the 2022-23 campaign, scoring seven points in 41 games. Playing with the top team full-time this past year, his production grew along with his confidence. In 50 appearances, Mølgaard scored nine goals and 21 points, good for third in the league in scoring among U-20 players.

Mølgaard has represented his nation on a couple of occasions, having made two appearances at the IIHF Under-18 Division 1A Men’s World Championships, helping the team win silver in 2023. He has been on the Under-20 at the D1A World Juniors in each of the last three years, winning bronze earlier this season.

In 2023, Mølgaard made his senior national team debut at the IIHF Men’s World Championship, also playing in the Deutschland Cup this past season. In 31 career appearances, he has scored four goals and 15 assists for 19 points.

As a result of the signing, the Kraken have 36 standard player contracts signed for the 2024-25 season. According to CapFriendly, Seattle has around $22.5 million in projected cap space.
