The Los Angeles Kings have re-signed goaltender Pheonix Copley to a one-year $775,000 contract, taking him through the end of the 2025-26 season, the club announced on Monday.

The 33-year-old played 42 games with the AHL’s Ontario Reign in 2024-25, posting a 24-17-1 record with a .904 save percentage. He also played one game with the Kings, where he allowed two goals on 12 shots after relieving David Rittich in a 6–2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs in October.

A veteran of seven NHL seasons and 11 years of professional hockey, Copley made his Kings debut on Dec. 6 2022, making 31 saves in a 5–2 win over the Ottawa Senators. Since then, he has gone on to play 46 NHL games with LA while spending most of his time in the AHL.

Through his NHL career, which included stops with the Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues organizations, Copley has played 77 regular-season games, posting a 44-16-8 record with a .898 save percentage and three shutouts.

Meanwhile, he has played 279 AHL games with the Reign, Hershey Bears and Chicago Wolves with a 148-92-29 record, posting 17 shutouts and a .910 save percentage over that span. Additionally, the North Pole, Alaska native has played in 19 AHL Calder Cup Playoff Games, and helped Hershey win the 2020-21 Harry Holmes Memorial Award for the best goaltending duo in the AHL.

Prior to his time in professional hockey, the six-foot-five goaltender spent two seasons with the Michigan Tech Huskies, earning an 18-28-7 record with a .907 save percentage through 54 NCAA games between 2012 and 2014.

In the upcoming 2025-26 season, Copley will hope to earn backup duties to starting netminder Darcy Kuemper, as the Kings look to bounce back after a disappointing first-round exit in the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Edmonton Oilers.
