Landeskog Out Indefinitely

Landeskog Out Indefinitely

The Colorado Avalanche announced on Tuesday that captain @Gabriel Landeskog is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. It’s unclear when he suffered the injury. Landeskog played the entirety of Saturday’s game against Calgary and practiced on Sunday before the team’s off day on Monday. Head coach Jared Bednar is expected to provide an update after the team’s practice on Tuesday.

Landeskog’s injury is a huge blow to an already hurting team. He already picked up three goals and four assists in 11 games this season, playing more than 20 minutes a night.

Lineup Implications

With their captain sidelined, the Avalanche are now missing two thirds of their dynamic top-line. The team announced last week that @Mikko Rantanen is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury. @J.T. Compher was the first depth forward to receive a promotion. He spent the last two games playing on the top line with Landeskog and @Nathan MacKinnon in place of Rantanen. He should continue to see time on the top power-play unit, but early indications are he’s already lost his spot on the top line. Compher skated with @Tyson Jost and @Andre Burakovsky on the second line at Tuesday’s practice. Instead, it was @Nazem Kadri and @Joonas Dosnkoi that skated with MacKinnon.

Playing with MacKinnon is an obvious boost to both Kadri and Donskoi’s fantasy value. Kadri figures to be a lot more involved offensively both at even strength as well as on the power-play. It’s an incredible opportunity for a player that appeared to be locked into a second-line role. Kadri is currently owned in 59% of Yahoo! leagues, while Donskoi’s ownership sits at just 6%. The Avalanche will be back in action at home on Wednesday against the Florida Panthers.
