Leafs sign Fraser Minten to three-year entry-level contract
The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward Fraser Minten to a three-year entry-level contract on Thursday.
Drafted 38th overall in July, Minten had 20 goals and 55 points in 67 regular season games with the Kamloops Blazers. He had an additional 16 points in 17 playoff games, good for fifth on the team.
The Leafs moved out of the first round to get rid of Petr Mrazek, but GM Kyle Dubas said on draft day that the guy they wanted was still around. That was Minten, who many projected to go either late in the second round, or much later after that.
Minten was seen skating with Jordie Benn, Timothy Liljegren, Wayne Simmonds and goaltender Andrew D’Agostini on Thursday. Minten has been working with the Leafs’ development staff while healing a wrist injury in late September. An assistant captain with the Blazers, Minten is expected to return to Kamloops once he fully heals.
Minten brings value as a reliable defensive forward, always making sure he has a man covered in his own zone. He’s known for his strong work ethic, showing he’s always ready to fight for the puck, no matter the opponent. Minten’s style is similar to Nick Paul, a checking-line forward who’s willing to do whatever it takes to win.
