Lightning acquire Lukas Svejkovsky from Penguins for Bennett MacArthur

The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired forward Lukas Svejkovsky from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Bennett MacArthur.

The 22-year-old Svejkovsky played 30 games with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers in 2023-24, recording 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points. He also had two goals and two assists for four points in 19 games with the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Taken in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Svejkovsky had 35 goals and 41 assists for 76 points with the Medicine Hat Tigers and Seattle Thunderbirds during the 2021-22 WHL season. He added 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points with the Thunderbirds during the 2022 post-season.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old MacArthur spent most of the 2023-24 season with the Allen Americans and Orlando Solar Bears, scoring 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points. The undrafted free agent has a total of 21 goals and 39 assists for 60 points during his two years of ECHL hockey.

Before turning pro, he spent parts of three seasons in the QMJHL with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, scoring 78 goals and 51 assists for 129 points in 120 career junior games.

The Lightning went 45-29-8 with 98 points last season, fourth in the Atlantic Division and clinching the No. 1 Wild Card spot. They would lose in the first round to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.

Meanwhile, the Penguins went 38-32-12 for 88 points, fifth in the Metropolitan Division, missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season.
