Kings’ Phillip Danault added to Canada’s 2025 World Championship roster

Los Angeles Kings center Phillip Danault has been added to the Canadian roster that will compete at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, reports Daily Faceoff’s Steven Ellis.
In all, Danault is one of 21 players named to the initial roster, with four spots yet to be filled.
Through 80 appearances with the Kings this season, Danault finished with eight goals and 35 assists to rank sixth in team scoring with 43 points coupled with 26 penalty minutes and a plus-20 rating. Danault also led all Kings forwards in averaging 1:52 in shorthanded ice time per game, helping the club rank eighth-best league wide with a 81.4 percent proficiency on the penalty kill.
A veteran of 711 career contests counting stops with the Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, and Kings, Danault has totaled 125 goals and 269 assists for 394 career points. Danault has also added nine goals and 19 assists for 28 points through 62 appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Danault was originally chosen 26th overall by the Blackhawks in the 2011 NHL Draft.
A 32-year-old native of Victoriaville, Que., Danault most recently represented Canada at the 2013 World Juniors where through six appearances he registered one point, two penalty minutes, and a minus-two rating. Danault also joined Canada Quebec at the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge where through five games he finished with three assists and 22 penalty minutes.
Beyond Danault, the Canadian roster for the 2025 IIHF World Championship counts several star players including Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby as well as Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon.
Co-hosted by Denmark and Sweden, the 2025 IIHF World Championship begins May 9 and includes 16 participating nations. Canada’s first game comes May 10 versus Slovenia. Last spring, Canada finished fourth place at the 2024 IIHF World Championship following a bronze-medal game loss to Sweden.
