On Monday, the Los Angeles Kings announced they have signed goaltender Pheonix Copley and forward Trevor Lewis to one-year contract extensions.

Both contracts will kick in for the 2024-25 season, with Copley making $825,000 and Lewis’ cap hit coming in at $800,000.

Over the past two seasons, Copley has appeared in 40 games with the Kings, recording a 28-7-5 record with a .887 save percentage, a 2.90 goals-against average and two shutouts. Following a knee injury in December, he was assigned to long-term injured reserve for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. His best season came in 2022-23, his first in Los Angeles, as he posted a 24-6-3 record with a 2.64 goals-against average, a .903 save percentage and one shutout.

In his NHL career, Copley has appeared in 76 regular-season games, holding a 44-16-8 record with a 2.83 goals-against average, a .899 save percentage and three shutouts.

Prior to joining the Kings as a free agent in July 2022, Copley spent eight seasons with the Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues. He was originally undrafted and signed with Washington in 2014.

Oh, and did I mention he is from North Pole, Alaska?

Lewis returned to Los Angeles in 2023-24 after four seasons with the Winnipeg Jets and two with the Calgary Flames. He played in all 82 regular-season games for the Kings last season, recording sixteen points (eight goals, eight assists). He did not record a point in five Stanley Cup Playoff games, as the Kings lost to the Colorado Avalanche in the first round.

The 37-year-old was originally drafted by Los Angeles in the first round (No. 17) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He has played 12 of his 16 seasons and 756 games with the Kings during his career. He was a part of both recent Stanley Cup championships in 2012 and 2014.
