Maple Leafs activate Bobby McMann from injured reserve
The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that winger Bobby McMann has been activated from injured reserve.
McMann has missed the past seven games with a lower-body injury after sustaining it during the Leafs’ 5-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on November 27th. It was later specified to be a groin injury, occurring at one point in the game when McMann took an awkward stride. The Leafs went 5-2-0 in his absence.
McMann is expected to return to the lineup alongside Fraser Minten and Max Domi on the Leafs’ third line for Saturday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings. This line combination has yet to play together this season.
McMann hasn’t had quite the same scoring touch this season as he did in 2023-24, as he has just 6 goals and 1 assist for 7 points in 21 games. That puts him on pace for 25 points should he play out the rest of the season, which would be just one point more than his career-high set last season, although that performance came in just 56 games.
McMann was an undrafted free agent signing out of Colgate University for the Leafs in 2020, making his pro debut in the 2020-21 season. He played two seasons in the AHL and ECHL before making his NHL debut with the Leafs in 2022-23. He’s now in his third NHL season with the Leafs.
McMann is in the first year of a two-year contract with a $1.35 million cap hit.
To make room on their roster, the Leafs sent down winger Nikita Grebenkin to their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. Grebenkin went pointless in 7 games with the Leafs, and has 4 goals and 6 assists for 10 points in 13 games in the AHL with the Marlies.
The Leafs will look to build off of back-to-back wins when they visit Detroit to play the Red Wings on Saturday at 7 p.m. EST. Toronto currently sits in first place in the Atlantic Division with an 18-9-2 record.
