Maple Leafs’ Bobby McMann leaves game against Panthers with lower-body injury
The Toronto Maple Leafs’ injury woes continue.
Forward Bobby McMann left Wednesday’s game against the Florida Panthers with an apparent lower-body injury.
Maple Leafs F Bobby McMann (lower body) will not return to tonight’s game.
— Leafs PR (@LeafsPR) November 28, 2024It has not been specified when or where McMann was injured during the game. The 28-year-old was seen during the second period, but he was not seen on the ice or the bench when the third period began.
McMann played 10:21 of ice time across 13 shifts with one blocked shot. The Panthers went on to win the game 5-1.
McMann’s injury could add to the ever-growing list of players on Toronto’s shelf. Currently, six Leaf forwards are on injured reserve or long-term injured reserve. Auston Matthews has returned to practice but hasn’t played since Nov. 3. Matthew Knies is still out with an upper-body injury suffered when he took a hard hit from Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Zach Whitecloud.
Max Domi and Calle Jarnkrok are also on IR, while David Kampf and Max Pacioretty have been placed on LTIR. Along with Ryan Reaves still serving his five-game suspension, the Leafs are currently without eight regular forwards following McMann’s premature exit.
McMann has appeared in 21 of the Leafs’ first 22 games of the season. He has scored six goals and seven points, registering a plus/minus of +6 while averaging 14:12 of ice time. The undrafted center joined the organization in April 2022, signing as a free agent. In 86 career NHL games, McMann has notched 21 goals and 11 assists for 32 points.
The Wainwright, Alberta native is in the first season of his two-year contract extension, which he signed with the Leafs last March. The deal carries a cap hit of $1.35 million through the 2025-26 campaign.
The Maple Leafs (13-7-2) are first in the Atlantic Division, one point ahead of the Panthers. Toronto will finish up its Florida road trip on Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
