Maple Leafs’ John Tavares, Mitch Marner out with illness; Steeves, Hildeby called up
The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that forwards John Tavares and Mitch Marner will miss Tuesday’s game against the St. Louis Blues due to illness.
The team subsequently announced that forward Alex Steeves and goaltender Dennis Hildeby were called up on an emergency basis, while defenseman Max Lajoie has been loaned to the Toronto Marlies.
The news comes on the same day that coach Sheldon Keefe announced that Martin Jones is out day-to-day with a lower-body injury, while defenseman Conor Timmins is out indefinitely with mono.
Marner is currently third in scoring for the Leafs with 22 goals and 57 points, while Tavares is fifth in scoring with 15 goals and 40 points.
The Leafs currently hold the first wild-card spot with a 26-16-8 record with 60 points – tied with the Detroit Red Wings. The Leafs have a four-point cushion over the New Jersey Devils in the first spot out of the playoffs.
The Leafs are set to host the Wild just after 7:00 PM ET Tuesday evening.
