Maple Leafs place Max Domi on injured reserve, call-up Nikita Grebenkin from AHL
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that the club has placed center Max Domi on the injured reserve.
Domi was added to the injured reserve retroactive to November 16. This allows Domi to return to the lineup as soon as Sunday as players must typically remain on the injured reserve for a minimum of seven days.
In a corresponding move, the Maple Leafs recalled left-wing Nikita Grebenkin from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
Skating in his second season with his hometown Maple Leafs, Domi has struggled offensively where despite appearing in all 19 contests he has failed to find the back of the net while registering only six assists. Domi has not tallied any points in his past 13 outings. The 29-year-old finished last season with 47 points counting nine goals and 38 assists coming in 80 contests. He also led the squad with 118 penalty minutes.
In all, through 680 career contests counting stops with Arizona, the Montreal Canadiens, Columbus Blue Jackets, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, and Maple Leafs, Domi has tallied 130 goals and 293 assists for 423 points. Domi was originally chosen 12th overall by Arizona in the 2013 NHL Draft.
For Grebenkin, the Russian-born forward is skating in his first pro season in North America where through 13 games he sits tied for second in Marlies scoring with 10 points counting four goals and six assists. A 2022 fifth-round selection by the Maple Leafs, Grebenkin spent the past two seasons in the KHL where last spring he helped Magnitogorsk capture the Gagarin Cup.
The Maple Leafs return to the ice Wednesday against the Vegas Golden Knights. Toronto is riding a two-game win streak and holds an 11-6-2 record on the season, good for 24 points and a single point back of the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers for top spot in the Atlantic Division.
