As the Toronto Maple Leafs endured a four-game losing streak, one that saw them blow leads in each of those games and cause many who cover the team and support it to call for head coach Sheldon Keefe’s job, they came out of Calgary with a 4-3 win over the Flames.

Auston Matthews scored his fourth hat trick of the season and the Maple Leafs picked up a desperately needed two points in the Atlantic Division.

On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discussed the Maple Leafs’ big win and how impressive Matthews’ 2023-24 season has been so far.

Tyler Yaremchuk: A day after Sheldon Keefe said “I can’t rely on anyone, who’s going to step up,” Auston Matthews, Toronto’s highest paid player, raised his hand and said “I got you, coach!” A hat trick for number 34 and a much-needed victory.

Frank Seravalli: You look at Matthews, his fourth hat trick of the year, hats litter the ice in Calgary, “Go Leafs Go” chants for a road game, and now Matthews has 22 goals and 21 games. Look, it’s a way outside chance, but the fact that 50 goals in 50 games is crazy to even consider. But Matthews has played himself into his spot, putting himself on a 70-goal pace.
