Marc-Andre Fleury says he wants to play at least one more season
Marc-Andre Fleury isn’t planning on hanging up his sakes any time soon.
The 37-year-old netminder told La Presse, a French digital newspaper out of Montreal, that he wants to play in the NHL for at least one more season.
“I would like to play at least another season. I decided that recently,” Fleury said. “I still like to play, I still have fun, the body still holds… most of the time. But yes, another season and we will see after.”
This has been a wild season for Fleury. After winning the Vezina Trophy in 2021, the Vegas Golden Knights traded him as a cap dump to the Chicago Blackhawks. While Chicago was expected to contend for a playoff spot, the team fell flat and Fleury wound up waiving his no-trade clause to get dealt to the Minnesota Wild ahead of the trade deadline.
Through seven games with the Wild, Fleury has posted a .921 save percentage. Minnesota is currently in third place in the Central Division with a 47-21-7, one point back of the St. Louis Blues.
Fleury is in the final season of the three-year, $21 million contract he signed with the Golden Knights shortly after leading the team to the Stanley Cup Final in their first-ever season in the NHL. He’s eligible to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career this summer.
Another season in the NHL and Fleury could jump Patrick Roy on the NHL’s all-time wins list for goaltenders. He currently sits third with 517 wins, 34 behind Roy at 551. Martin Brodeur leads the list with 691 wins.
