The team also announced that defender Charlotte Akervik has been released from her full Standard Player Agreement (SPA), and has been returned to the team’s Reserve Player List.
Buchbinder sustained an upper-body injury on Jan. 8 against the Boston Fleet. The Fairpont, N.Y., native has one assist in nine games with the Frost this season.
Last season, Buchbinder had two goals and four assists for six points in 24 regular-season games with Minnesota. She also had an assist in 10 PWHL Playoff games, helping the Frost win the league’s inaugural Walter Cup championship.
Taken in the seventh round of the PWHL’s inaugural draft, Buchbinder signed a two-year contract with Minnesota ahead of the 2024 regular season.
Buchbinder spent five seasons playing college hockey at the University of Wisconsin, helping the Badgers win the 2019 NCAA National Championship. Through her five seasons, she scored five goals and 50 assists for 55 points in 154 career games.
As for Akervik, she has appeared in two games this season, holding a minus-one rating.
The Frost are 6-4-3-6 with 29 points in 19 games, third in the PWHL standings. After starting the year strong and sitting at the top of the league standings, the Frost have lost five of their last seven games.
Minnesota will host the Sceptres Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 CT at the Xcel Energy Center. You can watch the game on the Fanduel Sports Network in the U.S., as well as on TSN in Canada.
