The Minnesota Wild have clinched their spot in the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Joel Eriksson Ek scored his 14th goal of the season with 20 seconds left in regulation against the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday night, helping the Wild force overtime and earn a point, clinching their spot in the postseason. Minnesota has now qualified for a playoff spot in 11 of their last 13 seasons.

Matt Boldy scored his 27th goal of the season with 17 seconds in overtime to seal the 3-2 win for the Wild.

The Wild close out the season with a 45-30-7 record and 97 points, earning the Western Conference’s No. 1 Wild Card spot, meaning they will face the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Wild started the season as one of the league’s best teams, starting the year 19-5-4 and leading the Central Division and while near the top of the league standings. But long-term injuries to both Kirill Kaprizov and Eriksson Ek lead to losing streaks and stretches of poor play.

But with wins in four of their last five games, Minnesota has secured a birth in the playoffs and go into their first-round matchup against the Golden Knights with momentum.

The St. Louis Blues clinched the other Wild Card spot Tuesday night, beating Utah Hockey Club 6-1. They will face the Winnipeg Jets in the first round.
