Wild’s Ryan Hartman suspended 10 games for roughing Senators’ Tim Stutzle
Minnesota Wild right winger Ryan Hartman has been suspended 10 games for roughing Ottawa Senators center Tim Stutzle, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Monday.
Facing the Senators on Saturday, Hartman lined up with Stutzle for a faceoff and, after the draw, pressed down on the back of Stutzle’s neck, pushing his face into the ice. Hartman was issued four penalty minutes on the play – two for roughing and two for embellishment – in addition to a match penalty, resulting in his ejection from the game. The Senators went on to win 6-0, with Stutzle contributing three points in the victory.
Hartman’s 10-game suspension is his fourth banishment over the past two seasons. Last April, Hartman was suspended three games for unsportsmanship conduct, while in November 2023 he received a two-game suspension following a dangerous trip. In April 2023, Hartman was banned one game for interference.
Hartman is eligible to return to Minnesota’s lineup March 9 when the club hosts the Pittsburgh Penguins. Hartman also has the opportunity to appeal the suspension, a decision that would then go before NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
Through 48 games with the Wild this season, Hartman has tallied seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points with a team-leading 60 penalty minutes.
Originally chosen 30th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2013 NHL Draft, Hartman has seen 628 career contests counting stops with the Blackhawks, Nashville Predators, Philadelphia Flyers, and Wild in which he has recorded 135 goals with 160 assists for 295 points alongside 637 penalty minutes.
A 30-year-old native of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Hartman is in the first year of a three-year pact that carries a $4-million annual average value, per PuckPedia.
On the season, the Wild sit third place in the Central Division with a 31-18-4 record and 66 points.
