Minnesota Wild sign Matt Boldy to seven-year $49 million extension

The Minnesota Wild announced Monday that the Wild and pending restricted free agent (RFA) Matt Boldy have agreed to a seven-year $49 million contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $7,000,000. Boldy was nearing the end of his entry-level contract (ELC) with the Wild. The contract does not begin to impact the Wilds’ cap until the 2023-24 season and runs through 2029-2030.

Boldy, 21, is currently in his second full season with the Wild. Through 42 games this season, he has notched 12 goals and 29 points, ranking him fourth among Wild skaters. During last season’s rookie campaign, Boldy registered 39 points (15G, 24A) in 47 games, he was sixth among rookies league-wide. He also recorded one playoff goal in six games. 

The Millis, Massachusetts native was selected 12th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft after registering 81 points (33G, 48A) in 64 games with the United States Development Program. He spent two seasons with the Boston College Eagles of the NCAA before making the leap to pro. In 2020-21, Boldy helped the Eagles win the NCAA Hockey East Championship, registering 31 points (11G, 20A) in 22 games. Boldy’s performance earned him the honor of being named a Hobey Baker Award Finalist. That same year, Boldy and Team USA defeated Team Canada at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. Boldy notched five goals and seven points in seven games. He made his pro debut with the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Iowa Wild and immediately made an impact; through his first 14 games, he recorded six goals and 18 points. Boldy made his franchise debut with the Wild in 2021-22.

The Wild currently sit third in the Central Division with a record of 24-14-4.
