Wild’s Jonas Brodin day-to-day with lower-body injury
Jonas Brodin will not be in the lineup Thursday when the Minnesota Wild take on the Central Division rival Colorado Avalanche as the veteran defenseman is sidelined with a lower-body injury, per Michael Russo of The Athletic.
On the season, Brodin has made 31 appearances and ranks second in scoring among Minnesota rearguards with four goals and 12 assists for 16 points. Facing the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, Brodin saw a season high of 32:42 in ice time. In the contest, Brodin picked up an assist to mark his third point in as many games en route to a 6-4 home ice victory.
The 10th overall selection from the 2011 NHL Draft, the 31-year-old Swedish-born blue-liner has spent his entire career with the Wild, counting 834 total appearances in which he has collected 58 goals and 198 assists for 256 points. Brodin has also added 16 points through 67 postseason outings.
Per PuckPedia, Brodin is in the fourth year of a seven-year pact that carries a $6-million annual average value.
With Brodin out, the Wild blue line becomes even more battered with captain Jared Spurgeon already sidelined with a lower-body injury, while another rearguard in Brock Faber also won’t suit up against the Avalanche due to an upper-body ailment, Wild head coach John Hynes told Russo.
A frequent participant with his native Sweden, Brodin’s extensive accolades in international competition includes bronze and gold medal wins at the IIHF World Championship as well as a first-place finish at the 2012 World Juniors when he was recognized as a top-three player for Team Sweden after putting four points in six games en route to the championship.
For the Wild, the club enters Thursday’s contest riding a four-game win streak. Minnesota sits second place in the Central Division with a record of 26-11-4, good for a five-point lead on the Avalanche.
