Canadiens’ David Savard set to retire after 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Montreal Canadiens’ defenseman David Savard confirmed to reporters Friday he will retire at the end of the Habs’ playoff run.

In 75 games this season with the Canadiens, Savard has one goal and 14 assists for 15 points and 36 penalty minutes, averaging 16:35 of ice time. In 14 NHL seasons, Savard has 54 goals and 188 assists for 242 points with the Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets.
His best offensive season was in 2014-15 with the Blues Jackets, where he scored 11 goals and 25 assists for 36 points, career highs in all three categories.
Savard has also played in 57 Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring a goal and 15 assists for 16 points and 20 penalty minutes. He was part of the Lightning’s 2021 Stanley Cup championship.
Savard was taken in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Blue Jackets. Before turning professional, the Saint-Hyacinthe, Que., native played three seasons in the QMJHL with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Moncton Wildcats. He helped the Wildcats win the QMJHL Championship.
The Canadiens will face the Washington Capitals in Round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Game 1 is Monday.
