The incident reviewed occurred at 9:31 of the first period in the Victoire’s game against the Boston Fleet on Saturday afternoon. The Player Safety Committee determined that O’Neill’s stick made dangerous contact to the head of opponent Emily Brown, which resulted in a minor penalty for high sticking.
This is the first time O’Neill has been fined in her PWHL career.
Through 19 games this season, the 26-year-old O’Neill has one goal and three assists for four points and 14 penalty minutes. Last season, the Oakville, Ont., native had four goals and five assists for nine points in 23 games with Montreal.
Taken in the second round of the 2023 PWHL Draft, O’Neill is in the second year of a three-year deal. She has been a mainstay for the Canadian National Team at the World Championships, winning three gold medals and one silver.
O’Neill spent four seasons playing college hockey with Cornell University, and was a highly productive player during her time there. In 125 games, O’Neill scored 81 goals and 64 assists for 145 points, averaging 1.16 points-per-game (PPG). Her best season came in 2019-20, where she scored 25 goals and 15 assists for 40 points in just 30 games.
The Victoire are 10-4-1-4 with 39 points, first place in the PWHL and seven points clear of the second-place Toronto Sceptres.
