Montreal Victoire’s Marie-Philip Poulin, Dara Greig fined for actions against New York Sirens

Once again, the best player in the world is having to pull money out of her wallet.
On Tuesday, the PWHL Player Safety Committee announced that Montreal Victoire captain Marie-Philip Poulin had been fined $500 for roughing against New York Sirens forward Emmy Fecteau. Also, Victoire forward Dara Greig was fined $250 for boarding Sirens defender Allyson Simpson.
Both incidents happened during the Victoire’s 6-2 win over the Sirens this past Saturday in Laval. Several minutes into the second period, Poulin went after Fecteau after the rookie caught Montreal defender Amanda Boulier with an airborne hit. Poulin took Fecteau–a player who idolizes Poulin–and shoved her into the boards, receiving a minor penalty for roughing in the process.
This is the second time Poulin has been fined in a matter of games. She was given a $250 fine for charging against Sirens forward Jade Downie-Landry in a game on Feb. 2.
Greig’s penalty came earlier in the middle stanza. She was given a minor for boarding Simpson, though it was determined by the PSC that the check from behind “caused her opponent to impact the boards dangerously.” It is the first time Greig has been fined in her PWHL career.
Poulin is having another great season in Montreal. The legendary center leads the league with 11 goals on the season, leading her team with 13 points as well, good for 10th among PWHL skaters. The Team Canada captain is also seventh in the league in penalty minutes with 13, second on the Victoire behind Catherine Dubois.
Greig has appeared in 14 of the Victoire’s 15 contests this year, registering an assist in the team’s 4-2 loss to the Minnesota Frost on Jan. 12.
The Victoire (9-3-1-2) will be hosting the Frost against on Tuesday night. Montreal is at the top of the league, eight points ahead of the second-place Boston Fleet.
