Movie star Keanu Reeves signs one-day contract with Windsor Spitfires
He might be an overager, but he is getting a chance to live out his hockey dream–sort of.
On Thursday, the Windsor Spitfires announced they had signed goaltender Keanu Reeves to a one-day contract.
Yes, that Keanu Reeves.
In a moment of happenstance, the Windsor Spitfires Hockey Club were finally able to add this former Ontario Hockey League goalie prospect, turned Dogstar bass player, to their roster with a one day contract! Welcome to the #YQG Keanu Reeves!

The movie star was in Windsor for a show with his band Dogstar, and the Spitfires had a chance to give Reeves a chance to reach a milestone that he didn’t get the chance to earlier in life. Along with signing a contract, the Lebanon-born star signed multiple items that are going to be auctioned off, with the proceeds benefitting the Canadian Mental Health Association – Windsor.
The Canadian actor grew up in the Greater Toronto Area, attending four different high schools, including De La Salle College, where he became one of the top goaltenders in the region, reportedly earning the nickname “The Wall.” Reeves was being considered by a few teams in the Ontario Hockey League. However, an injury cut his hockey career short, leading to his decision to pursue action.
While Reeves is best known for his roles in hit movies such as the John Wick series, The Matrix series, Point Break, and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, some forget that his first movie credit came in a familiar setting. He played Heaver, a goaltender for the Hamilton Mustangs, in the hit 1986 movie Youngblood, a movie coincidentally about a junior hockey team in Ontario pursuing the Memorial Cup. He appeared alongside Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze. At least Reeves had the chance to win junior hockey’s ultimate prize, even though it came in a fictional setting.
Reeves has since appeared in other sports movies, most notably as Shane Falco in the 2000 flick The Replacements, along with Conor O’Neill in 2001’s Hardball. He also represented his Canadian background in 2019’s Toy Story 4, voicing the role of Duke Caboom, a Canadian daredevil.
