The busy week in the NHL continues as the Nashville Predators and Detroit Red Wings completed a trade Tuesday. The deal sees defenseman Andrew Gibson dealt to the Predators in exchange for forward Jesse Kiiskinen and a 2024 second-round pick.

The second-round pick the Red Wings receive originally belonged to Tampa Bay, who sent the draft pick to Nashville in the Ryan McDonagh deal earlier in the offseason.

Gibson, 19, a 2023 second-round pick, spent the 2023-24 season with the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League where he’d go on to collect 44 points in 68 games. It was a career-best season for Gibson who set career highs in games played, goals, assists and points.

The Windsor, ON native also chipped in with two assists in 11 playoff games before the Greyhounds were eliminated in the second round to the hands of the Saginaw Spirit. Gibson has also represented his country, earning a bronze medal with Team Canada at the U-18 World Championships.

Kisskinen, 18, is a native of Hollola, Finland and was selected in the third round, 68th overall by the Predators in 2023. The 6-foot right winger spent this past season playing in Finland and could be looking to make the jump overseas to North America within the next couple of seasons.

Detroit now owns their own first-round pick and two second rounders at this weekend’s upcoming draft in Las Vegas, meanwhile the Predators add Gibson, who will be looking to make an impression next season at training camp.

As the offseason continues, keep an eye on the Predators, who were mentioned by Frank Seravalli as a team he expects to be very busy over the course of the next couple of weeks. General manager Barry Trotz has over $26-million in cap space to work with and is open for business as the Predators look to secure some secondary scoring this summer.
