Nashville Predators select Yegor Surin with No. 22 pick in 2024 NHL Draft

The Nashville Predators have selected left-handed center Yegor Surin with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Surin, 17, racked up 22 goals and 52 points in 42 games with Loko Yaroslavl in the MHL, Russia’s top junior league, during the 2023-24 regular season. The Voronezh, Russia product added 23 points (including a league-leading 18 assists) in 19 games before Loko fell to SKA-1946 St. Petersburg deep into the 2024 MHL playoffs.

“Surin was a man on a mission throughout the MHL playoffs, only getting outpaced by Ivan Demidov. He played great during the second half, where it seemed like he was more in control of his own body and not trying to hit guys for the sake of throwing a hit. Discipline can still be an issue at points, but he’s so skilled with a great shot and quick hands. If Surin can put everything together consistently without trying to get too cute with the puck, he’ll be a steal. The upside is real here, but he’s got to play smarter.”

According to Elite Prospects, Surin’s current contract over in Russia extends through the end of the 2025-26 season. He is represented by Gold Star Sports Management, whose CEO, Dan Milstein, works with most Russian-born NHL players.

In addition to his junior action, Surin skated in three KHL games with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl during his draft year. He also appeared in one MHL game with Loko-76 Yaroslavl, scoring one goal.

Surin also spent his draft-minus-one season in Yaroslavl, managing 12 goals and 31 points in 48 games split between Loko and Loko-76. The 6’1″, 192-pound center won an MHL bronze medal with Loko in 2023.

The Predators finished with a 47-30-5 record in the 2023-24 season, giving them 99 points — enough to finish No. 11 in the league.
