Nashville Predators sign Adam Wilsby to one-year, $775,000 contract

Nashville Predators general manager Barry Trotz announced that the team has signed defenseman Adam Wilsby to a one-year, $775,000 contract.

Wilsby was a restricted free agent after the conclusion of his two-year entry-level contract with an $842,500 cap hit that he signed with the Preds in 2022. There are no signing bonuses or no-move/no-trade clauses with this contract. It is a two-way contract, with his minor-league salary being $85,000.

Wilsby sees his salary drop by just under $100,000 per year, with his new contract having the lowest AAV of his career thus far. With this new contract, the Preds lock him up at 0.88% of the 2024-25 salary cap.

Wilsby spent the entirety of his season in the AHL with the Predators minor-league affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, where he had 8 goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 61 games. It was the best season of his AHL career so far, setting new career highs in goals and points after only having 1 goal and 17 assists for 18 points in his rookie season, which also came in 72 games.

Wilsby also had 3 assists in 15 playoff games as the Admirals were eliminated in the Western Conference Final by the Coachella Valley Firebirds in 5 games.

Wilsby was a fourth-round pick for the Predators in the 2020 NHL Draft out of Sweden, and after three more seasons in the Swedish Hockey League and the Swedish 1st Division, he signed his entry-level contract with the team in 2022 before playing in the playoffs for the Admirals that season, and then making his regular season debut in 2022-23. He has yet to play a game in the NHL at this point.

The Predators had a big offseason, signing several big names in free agency like Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei. They still have almost $11 million in cap space to work with, with only Juuso Parssinen, Philip Tomasino, Spencer Stastney and Marc Del Gaizo remaining as RFAs to re-sign.
