Predators sign Magnus Chrona to one-year contract

The Nashville Predators announced Friday that the club has signed goaltender Magnus Chrona to one-year, two-way contract extension that carries a $775,000 annual average value.
Through 29 appearances this season with the AHL affiliated Milwaukee Admirals, Chrona posted an 11-11-5 showing with a .901 save percentage and 2.87 goals-against average. The 2024-25 campaign marks his second season in the AHL following a 31-game showing with the San Jose Barracuda a year ago that saw him put together a 6-17-6 record coupled with an .894 save percentage and 3.49 goals-against average. In all, through 60 appearances in the AHL, Chrona has compiled a 17-28-11 record alongside an .897 save percentage and 3.19 goals-against average.
Originally chosen by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft, the 24-year-old Swedish-born netminder made his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks in 2023-24 where through nine outings he went 1-6-1 with an .859 save percentage and 4.71 goals-against average.
Chrona’s professional experience also counts a two-game stint with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder in 2023-24 in which he posted a 0-1-1 showing with a .904 save percentage and 2.94 goals-against average.
Chrona joined the Predators last August as part of the deal that sent prospect goaltender Yaroslav Askarov to the Sharks. Alongside Chrona, the Predators also received center David Edstrom plus a conditional first-round selection in the upcoming NHL Draft.
With Chrona signed, he becomes of three goaltenders under contract with the Predators next season alongside 29-year-old Finnish-born starter Juuse Saros as well as 25-year-old backup Justus Annunen, who was added from the Central Division rival Colorado Avalanche in the late November deal that shipped Scott Wedgewood to Denver. In Milwaukee, the Predators also have 27-year-old farmhand Matthew Murray, who is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason, per PuckPedia.
