Though their season ended on a whim, the New Jersey Devils have the ability to bolster their lineup for an even better performance next year.

The Devils were knocked out in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Carolina Hurricanes. The team had an impressive season, although they seemed to be a weaker team without Jack Hughes due to injury.

However, the team has plenty of room to make some additions to enhance their lineup. Currently, general manager Tom Fitzgerald has over $12 million at his disposal, giving him the opportunity to add to his roster through free agency and trades, if he so chooses to.

On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk look at what the Devils could do this offseason to mightily improve their roster.

Frank Seravalli: They weren’t a very tough team to play against. That’s the one thing that stands out. They need size. They need brawn. They certainly could use some of that on their back end. I actually thought the price was rich at the time, but Brian Dumoulin came in and played pretty well and chewed up some monster minutes for the Devils. I thought a second-round pick was a lot, given the moment in time and given the market for him, but they were willing to strike first, and they definitely need some luck, health and consistency.

I’m curious to see what they do for their backup goalie position, you mentioned Jake Allen, he’s kind of the belle of the ball when it comes to free-agent goalies this summer. I think the number one priority for the Devils has to be: Get players who make it more difficult to play against them. Brendan Dillon, love him, but he’s not enough. You need more guys like him and you certainly need more forwards that are going to grind and make life difficult on opponents.
