Devils’ Jonas Siegenthaler out for rest of 2024-25; Dougie Hamilton out for ‘extended time’

The New Jersey Devils‘ blue line is banged up.
On Friday, Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced that Jonas Siegenthaler will miss the remainder of the regular season while fellow rearguard Dougie Hamilton will ‘miss an extended period of time’ due to injury.
Sidelined since early February due to a lower-body injury, Siegenthaler made 55 appearances with the Devils this season in which he scored twice and added seven assists for nine points coupled with 44 penalty minutes and a plus-nine rating. Originally chosen 57th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2015 NHL Draft, the 27-year-old Swiss-born blue-liner has totaled 367 career contests with the Capitals and Devils in which he has tallied 10 goals and 56 assists for 66 points. Siegenthaler has also added three points in 22 postseason appearances.
Per PuckPedia, Siegenthaler is in the second year of a five-year pact that carries a $3.4-million annual average value.
For Hamilton, the veteran blue-liner exited Tuesday’s contest against the Dallas Stars late in the first period and did not return after suffering a lower-body injury. On the season, the 31-year-old Toronto product leads all New Jersey defensemen with 40 points counting nine goals and 31 assists coming in 63 appearances.
A veteran of 834 career contests counting stops with the Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, and Devils, Hamilton has collected 151 goals and 350 assists for 501 career points. Hamilton has also notched nine goals and 20 assists for 29 points in 66 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Chosen ninth overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2011 NHL Draft, Hamilton later signed a seven-year, $63-million deal with the Devils in the 2021 offseason.
Entering Friday’s contest against the Winnipeg Jets, the Devils sit third place in the Metropolitan Division with a 33-24-6 record and 72 points. New Jersey have qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs one time in the past six years.
